# What a brands-carried list tells a buyer

Suppliers and reps

You found a supplier that lists the brand your project calls for. Use that list to start the inquiry, then ask about the exact product, local availability, and sales terms. A brand name on a profile is not an order confirmation.

## Use the supplier's brands-carried list for a product inquiry

You found a supplier listing the brand your job calls for. The list identifies manufacturers the supplier says it carries. Ask whether this location can supply your exact item before comparing prices or setting a delivery date.

[Andersen’s dealer locator](https://www.andersenwindows.com/where-to-buy) provides a manufacturer’s route to find sellers, separate from a supplier’s own brand listing.

Builders FirstSource names window manufacturers on its [window and door specialist page](https://www.bldr.com/services/window-door-specialists). Its separate [services page](https://www.bldr.com/services) tells readers that services vary by location. Confirm the listed services and products with the branch you plan to use.

Ask who maintains the brand information and which location it describes. For a company-wide listing, ask for the contact serving your project area. For a local profile, confirm which product lines the branch currently supplies.

Do not infer a Cercha partnership, certification, or recommendation from a supplier's brand list. Use the list to find a supplier to contact. Ask that business directly about your order.

## Separate the manufacturer from the product line

Write down the full specified product. Include the series, model or material designation, dimensions, finish, and configuration that apply. Ask the supplier to confirm the exact item, not just the manufacturer.

[Andersen’s installation resources](https://www.andersenwindows.com/support/window-door-installation) include instructions for opening preparation, fastening, flashing, and accessories to check against the selected product.

For a package, list the accessories and related items. Ask which are supplied with the main product and which appear on separate lines. Give the responsible trade the selection information to review through the project's process.

Weyerhaeuser's [distribution page](https://www.weyerhaeuser.com/woodproducts/distribution/) presents multiple building-product categories and directs homeowners to dealers. You still need to confirm who sells your product to buyers like you. The [distribution and dealer guide](/guides/manufacturer-distributor-dealer-installer/) explains the roles to map.

If the supplier cannot provide the specified line, ask it to state that clearly. A different series from the same manufacturer is still a different selection. Request a comparison and use the project's approval process before ordering it.

## Confirm stock and reservation separately

Ask where the exact item and quantity are available now. Find out whether it is on hand at the location, at another branch, available through a distributor, or ordered for the job. Record the answer and the date of confirmation.

Keep stock confirmation separate from reservation. Ask what action reserves material, how long the reservation lasts, and what happens if the order changes. Do not describe material as secured when the supplier has only checked a system.

For mixed packages, ask for status by line. Check the main product and accessories separately. Ask which missing item would stop the trade from doing the work.

Use these questions to check what you can buy:

| Question | Answer to obtain |
| --- | --- |
| Exact product | Series, model, configuration, and specification |
| Local offering | Location and contact that can supply it |
| Quantity | Purchasing unit and confirmed available amount |
| Status | Stock, transfer, vendor order, or unresolved |
| Reservation | Action and conditions that hold the material |
| Timing | Named milestone and current estimate or commitment |
| Support | Contact for product information and order problems |

Ask the supplier for these answers. Neither Cercha nor a brand listing promises these services.

## Ask for an itemized quote on the confirmed selection

Send the specification, quantity, project reference, and requested delivery phase. Ask the supplier to quote the whole agreed scope. List alternatives separately from the specified product.

Confirm quote validity, freight, delivery, handling, accessories, and other terms relevant to the purchase. Ask whether a charge is included, excluded, or pending confirmation. Avoid comparing one complete package with another seller's material-only subtotal.

Get these terms through the seller's quoting process; a brand list does not supply them. Use the [building supplier comparison guide](/guides/choose-a-building-supplier/) to compare the same product and service scope across locations.

If the product requires a special order, ask what releases it and which milestone ends its lead time. The [special-order guide](/guides/special-orders-and-lead-times/) explains the difference between an availability estimate, shipment, and delivery. Label the supplier's date with the milestone it describes.

Do not assume the same terms apply to every product from the manufacturer. Request the change, cancellation, return, and storage terms for the actual order. Save the applicable document before authorizing release.

## Find contacts for product and order problems

Ask which person supplies product documentation and which person handles an order issue. Keep project design decisions with the responsible professional. A salesperson who supplies a document may not have authority to approve its use on your job.

[Andersen separates warranty documents by product family](https://www.andersenwindows.com/support/warranty), so request the document for the item quoted.

Request the installation information and applicable warranty for the proposed item. Give them to the responsible trade or reviewer. Do not infer installer certification, warranty labor coverage, or project suitability from a manufacturer's name in a listing.

If the supplier describes itself as an authorized dealer, ask how to confirm the status through the manufacturer. Save the confirmation for that location and product. Dealer status does not guarantee stock, workmanship, or timing.

When another product is proposed, use the [written substitution process](/guides/material-substitutions/). Keep the original selection, proposed change, supporting documents, and decision together. Review the exact item even when you know the brand.

## Present brands clearly when you are the supplier

List the brands your business currently sells. Identify the relevant product categories and location in your description. Ask your account or product team to check the wording before publishing it.

Keep changing stock information separate from the brand list. If you choose to publish availability elsewhere, identify the product, location, and verification date, then maintain that information. Do not leave a stock claim on your profile after availability changes.

Say which services you provide. State whether the inquiry concerns supply, installation, product selection, or another confirmed service. Give the buyer a responsible contact for the next step.

When a product line or service area changes, update your public listing and account information together. Do not keep an old brand name as a way to attract inquiries you cannot answer. If a buyer requests an unavailable product, explain the limitation and ask whether they want an alternative considered.

For a first response, request the exact item and project information you need. Tell the buyer what your branch can supply. Keep pricing, reservation, and delivery commitments in the appropriate order record.

Use [winning builder accounts](/guides/win-builder-accounts/) to turn the line card into a proposal for a clearly defined purchase.

## Where Cercha fits

Cercha building-supplier profiles include a Brands field, and Messages lets members begin contact. Use the list to identify a supplier to ask about the specified material. Confirm product details, stock, price, and service directly with that supplier.
