Drywall supply

Drywall supply and jobsite stocking

Quote the board and finishing materials against your hanging crew's takeoff. Agree where the supplier places them before you release delivery.

You need the right board in the rooms your drywall crew will hang. Get a checked takeoff from the sub, then quote the material and stocking service together. Agree on placement, access, and receiving before the supplier loads the truck.

Use the checklist below to request comparable quotes. Have the site lead and supplier review the proposed stocking plan before you commit to a delivery.

Connect the board order to the hanging crew

GMS lists gypsum wallboard, framing, insulation, tools, and accessories among its products. Its delivery description connects sales staff, yard managers, and dispatch with bid information, unloading, and stocking schedules. That is a documented service model to discuss with a local supplier. GMS products, delivery coordination

Start at the branch counter or pro desk. Ask for the rep who coordinates residential board packages. If an outside rep owns your account, ask who covers dispatch questions when that rep is away.

Identify whether the builder or drywall sub purchases the material. Name the person who checks the takeoff and the site lead who approves receiving. Put those contacts on the quote request so the supplier can resolve questions with the right person.

Check the drywall supply list before comparing quotes

Ask your drywall sub to review the current plan revision. Request quantities by room or level where that detail helps the stocking plan. Keep each specified board product on its own line.

Check the following items before comparing prices:

Ask the supplier to show exclusions and packaging units. Compare delivery and stocking charges separately from material prices. Give alternatives their own lines so your sub can review them. Keep the accepted quote attached to the approved takeoff.

If the quote covers only board, send the finishing-material list as a separate inquiry. Use the drywall finish-level guide to review the intended finish with the crew. Ask who owns that release and when it must arrive. Have the finishing sub approve the products before ordering.

Set a stocking plan the site can receive

GMS describes flatbed and boom trucks, pickup, and boom-and-scatter deliveries that place material where needed on a jobsite. Ask which option the local branch proposes for your house. GMS delivery services

Send access information and a placement sketch. Ask the supplier to review the route, openings, stairs, and proposed equipment position. Get approval from the responsible site professionals for placement and loading arrangements. Identify any area the supplier cannot reach.

Confirm whether the quote includes each room and level. Ask who prepares those areas and who escorts the delivery crew. Agree on a receiving appointment with the GC and hanging sub. Keep the supplier’s site-readiness conditions with that appointment.

Before dispatch, have the site lead confirm access is still available. If another trade occupies the route or the placement plan changes, contact dispatch before releasing the load. Obtain a revised plan and any revised charge.

Check special orders and incomplete loads

GMS advertises sourcing and delivery of specialty items. Obtain a product-specific response rather than assuming a specialized panel follows the same schedule as ordinary stock. GMS special orders

Ask which lines are stocked, transferred, or ordered. Request lead times and any approval cutoff. Identify which outstanding item controls the crew’s start. Decide whether you accept a partial shipment and how the remaining material gets stocked.

Assign a receiving contact to check the load against the order. Ask how to record damaged sheets or incorrect products. Agree on the shortage contact and replacement procedure before delivery. Keep that record available to both hanging and finishing crews.

List the brands your branch can supply

If you sell drywall, identify the manufacturers and panel families you supply. GMS separates its product categories and vendor information on its product page. Use that level of specificity to make your own offering clear. GMS product and vendor scope

Explain your stocking scope in plain language. Ask a buyer for exact panel requirements and the job location. Confirm availability directly. Let the buyer’s responsible professional approve the specified assembly and any substitution.

Keep the builder account through the last shortage

As a rep, quote a trial job with material scope, placement locations, and receiving responsibilities. Ask the hanging sub to check the package before the builder releases it. Confirm dispatch changes with the site contact.

After stocking, ask whether the placement matched the agreed plan. Close missing-material questions with a named owner and an update date. Use the result to prepare the next house’s takeoff and access review.

Give paint and coatings their own product review

USG lists joint compounds and tape separately within its wall products. Sherwin-Williams provides a dedicated painting-contractor channel. Ask the drywall counter which finishing products it quotes and whether paint must come from a coatings specialist. USG finishing products, painting-contractor resources

Have the painting sub approve the primer, coating system, sheen, color, and quantities for the specified substrate and finish. Ask who resolves compatibility questions between the joint-treatment manufacturer and coatings manufacturer. Record the accepted product documents before buying a substitute. Keep paint release and touch-up material separate from the board-stocking order.

Source specialty firestop against the approved system

Hilti lists firestop devices, sealants, and other fire-protection products. Use its specialist product resources to prepare an assembly-specific inquiry. Hilti firestop products

Ask the responsible designer and installing trade which listed system applies before asking for a price. Send the approved system identifier, assembly, penetration details, and product list to the specialist counter. Ask who confirms the components, quantities, and documentation for that system. Do not accept a generic sealant substitution from the board order.

At the insulation handoff, identify who buys and installs any specified mineral wool or backing material. Ask the GC to assign responsibility for joints, service penetrations, inspection records, and repairs after later trade work. Confirm which items the insulation and drywall quotes exclude.

Confirm any delivery outside ordinary hours

Ask whether the branch offers an early, late, or weekend delivery for your location. Get the surcharge, appointment rules, cancellation terms, and dispatch contact in writing. GMS describes coordinated delivery and stocking services; that description does not promise an off-hours slot at your branch. GMS delivery scope

Name an on-site receiver and a backup with permission to admit the truck. Have the GC approve access, lighting, unloading, noise restrictions, and the stocking locations before accepting the appointment. Confirm whether the quote covers a ground drop, carrying inside, or room stocking. Do not assume an after-hours delivery includes extra placement work.
