Residential construction glossary

You need the same words on the scope, the order, and the jobsite. Find plain definitions for the next conversation.

Look up the word that is holding up a scope conversation, supplier inquiry, or site handoff. Each entry gives you a plain definition, common aliases, a source, and related terms. Start with the term on the drawing or document. Then follow the related entries when you need to separate two similar ideas.

Read a definition alongside your project documents. For truss vocabulary, use the component industry glossary. A certificate of insurance summarizes listed policies; it does not replace them. The ACORD certificate states that boundary.

Use the glossary to prepare a clearer question for the GC, trade, supplier, building department, or insurance agent. Ask which item, document, or responsibility the other person means. Entries that use a state or federal example name that context.

Follow the cited source for its exact scope. Keep job-specific dimensions, approvals, coverage, and payment terms with the people responsible for them.

Where Cercha fits

Use Cercha’s Search filters for trade, ZIP code, and radius to find a member to contact. Supplier profiles list brands carried, and Messages lets you ask that member about the work or materials you need.
